It&rsquo;s a blood disorder that affects the amount of oxygen that passes through the body and causes episodes of severe chronic pain and organ damage.<br><em>\u00ab\u00a0Finding out that I am a carrier changed my perspective on life. <\/em>Joelle said<em>,  I felt a new fire in me ignite and I became determined to use my energy to help others.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><br>That same year,<strong> the Sickle Cell Foundation<\/strong> led a campaign to encourage more people to donate blood to use in blood transfusions. They also needed financial help so that they could expand their research into a cure and support families and individuals suffering from the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\" style=\"border-color:#aecec0\"><blockquote><p><em>\u00ab\u00a0Finding out that I am a carrier changed my perspective on life, I felt a new fire in me ignite and I became determined to use my energy to help others.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery aligncenter columns-2 is-cropped\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.adelana.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Arlokea-Adelana-bijoux-3-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"2552\" data-full-url=\"http:\/\/www.adelana.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Arlokea-Adelana-bijoux-3-scaled.jpg\" data-link=\"http:\/\/www.adelana.fr\/?attachment_id=2552\" class=\"wp-image-2552\"\/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.adelana.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Arlokea-Photos-2-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"2555\" data-full-url=\"http:\/\/www.adelana.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Arlokea-Photos-2-scaled.jpg\" data-link=\"http:\/\/www.adelana.fr\/?attachment_id=2555\" class=\"wp-image-2555\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">Seeing the need of the Sickle Cell Foundation and with her being sickle carrier, Joelle decided to create&nbsp;<strong><span style=\"color:#aecec0\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Arlokea<\/span><\/strong>.<br><em>\u00ab\u00a0I had the idea to develop a brand&nbsp;that recognized that we as a society have an <strong><span style=\"color:#aecec0\" class=\"has-inline-color\">ethical and social responsibility<\/span> <\/strong>to contribute to the community that we operate in, <strong><span style=\"color:#aecec0\" class=\"has-inline-color\">whether or not we are directly affected by a disease<\/span> <span style=\"color:#aecec0\" class=\"has-inline-color\">or a particular social issue<\/span><\/strong> that affects so many people living around us.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#aecec0\"><strong>Turn social injustice into activism<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">The brand raises different values so activism is built within each structure she is involved meaning : social injustice and ethical in the fashion production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">Social injustices is fought thanks to the donations given to the communities involved in the production chain of Arlokea. It allows them to do what they are doing for longer periods of time as well as time spent volunteering with different groups and organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">Ethical appears through transparency.<em> \u00ab\u00a0Transparency is crucial in this as we are dedicated to showing the environmental and social impact that we have<\/em>, said Joelle. <em>We only sell fashionable, functional, and ethical garments and accessories that are meant to last.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#aecec0\"><strong>How Arlokea helps?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">Arlokea helps in different many ways starting with the people who create the jewelry and the ones who suffered from sickle cell carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-4 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-3 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-2 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div class=\"wp-container-1 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ul><li>Fair Trade suppliers<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-container-5 wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">Arlokea is currently partnering with artisans who use sustainable harvested nuts and seeds from the rainforests in Ecuador and recycled bullhorn in Vietnam. This helps to preserve the forests for future generations by providing an alternative income for farmers rather than cutting trees down for logging and agriculture. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Women Empowering<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">The women have the opportunity to be paid fairly and gain experience running workshops. They also provide training to other women in their community. Fair Anita is one of the cooperatives that also provides childcare for the women, as well as educational support for the women and their children.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>For Sickle Cell carriers <\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">A part of the profit is given to different organisations who helps to fight the sicle celle carriers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pathwaystoeducation.ca\">Pathways<\/a> to education is an organization that provides youth from low-income communities with tutoring and other resources needed to successfully graduate highscool and go on to post-secondary education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sicklecellontario.ca\">SCAO<\/a> is an organization that provides support and resources for individuals, families affected by Sickle Cell Disease.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">My family and friends are a huge support in my life and have helped me succeed in&nbsp;many areas of my life. The tagua seeds can then be cut into different shapes and forms. It is also possible to dye the seed in a variety of different natural colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:21px\">The earrings are made from <span style=\"color:#aecec0\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>recycled bullhorn<\/strong> <\/span>that that has been discarded by local stockyards.
