Veggie World Paris: Understanding veganism

Square

The Veggie World was held in Paris on 18 and 19 May 2019. An event that I did not want to miss in particular to meet different organizations and companies fighting for a specific cause.

Where does this veganism come from?

Before presenting the different brands I have seen, it is important to understand where this veganism comes from.

Vegan is an English term that was first used in 1944 by Donald Watson, co-founder of the Vegan Society which is a syncope of the English word vegetarian. In 1951, the official definition of vegan was affirmed by living without exploiting animals.

This explains better why I met a lot of vegans in London. It's almost a crime not to see at least one vegan dish served in restaurants there. Of course, we must not overlook the large Indian population that is present.

In France, the term vegan entered the le Petit Robert dictionary only in 2015. According to BioLinéaires, between 2 and 3% of the French population (or one million) consider themselves vegetarian or vegan.

During this event at Veggie World, it is an opportunity to exchange and discover the different vegan fashion, accessories and beauty brands.

My favourite brand: Colibries Made In Holland

Colibries – Vegan brand

I spoke at length with Thùy, the founder of this brand Colibries.

Ecology: These accessories are made from paper they call Paper Tex; it is a lightweight kraft paper, which has a high tear-resistant and made from biodegradable and natural fibers. It is easily machine washable (40 degrees without softening).

Ethics: Thùy knows personally the employees who make these bags. "In Vietnam, young women find it difficult to find work and turn to prostitution," Thùy tells me, "By employing them, I am committed to helping them get them out of this environment."

Adelana's anec
dote, since my stay in Benin about ten years ago, I remember experiencing a scene that deeply shocked me: the slaughter of a goat for cooking. The goat was then served to us surrounded by different local dishes.Despite the fact that this is "nicely" presented, I did not eat it.

With this experience, I can understand the people who become vegans.

Midnight On Earth

Today, I find it difficult to find ethical and eco-responsible shoe brands that offer sizes above 41. Imagine the joy I had when I saw shoes in '42. Midnight On Earth meets exactly several needs:

Ecological: The materials used in the composition of their shoes: notably viscose and cellulose from cereals and polyurethane partly recycled

Ethics: their shoes are made in Portugal where the working conditions of employees are respected.

Fashionable: Vegan is not always associated with a bohemian or minimalist style, and Midnight On Earth offers pretty pairs of trendy shoes.

Olivia's workshop

These jewels are created without animal gelatin and only with pigments of plant origin. It's all gold and silver-plated enamel. It gives gift ideas for any occasion.

Other brands on site were present like Zoa Store or Jean Louis Mahe where I will take more time to explain their story in a future article.

I am not vegan however some companies meet a personal need that I am looking for for my choice to live in an eco-responsible way. And that even in the diet, I talk less because I'm not very familiar with vegan dishes. From what I've seen at Veggie World, there are a lot of options today to eat healthily while respecting living things.
I respect veganism because I am aware today of the conditions in which animals are raised. It's not surprising that more and more people are becoming vegan. For my part, I try to be very careful what I buy.

Everyone should have a minimum of consideration for living things especially animals. There are several other alternatives to get out of this vicious cycle of mass consumption: vegetarian or pro-bio can be considered. Everyone has their own point of view.

There is enough food on Earth from nature to survive and if it comes from animals, at least think about this; in what condition did the animal live and finish?
